The youngest members of our school family participated in a resident artist experience with Ms. Krista Story. Krista joined us weekly and encouraged our infants and toddlers to color on ceramic tiles with permanent markers. We then used pipettes to experiment with a resist technique, using a unique solution to repel the colors in ink from the tile. The use of pipettes at this age builds fine motor skills and strengthens the muscles in the hand needed later in life for holding writing utensils. Pipettes are also a wonderful tool for encouraging problem-solving, as their confidence builds when their attempts become successful.
