Classrooms at St. Mark Center have used the Project Approach to teach students through child-led discovery and intentional play-based learning. When students show interest in a particular topic or area of study, it is our job as educators to guide their learning in a meaningful way. One of the ways we culminate these projects and assess their learning is through these collaborative murals. Each child is encouraged to create imagery that represents what they have retained throughout their studies. We arranged these images on one large piece of paper, and students can process and reflect on their experiences with their peers. These murals honor the artists as individuals and as members of a classroom family while providing their teachers with visual evidence of a successful project.
